Cobblers begin at home to Stanley

After huge anticipation once again, the fixtures are in and the Cobblers will begin the new NPower League Two season with a home game against Accrington Stanley. Last season’s playoff semi finalists will provide an early test but we have to be pleased with an opening month that sees us also host Cheltenham Town and Morecambe in August.

Following the Stanley opener and the Carling Cup trip to Ipswich, the Cobblers go to Aldershot before another away game, this time at relegated but well equipped Bristol Rovers. The Gas will probably give us the biggest challenge of the first month after making some quality signings so far, the latest of those being Matt Harrold joining yesterday from Shrewsbury.

Other early highlights include a trip to AFC Wimbledon (Tuesday, Sept 13th) and fellow newly promoted side Crawley Town coming to Sixfields (Saturday, Oct 8th).

The Christmas period was ravaged by snow last season but providing there’s not a repeat of that we will go to Oxford in the most local away game of the season (Saturday, Dec 17th) and welcome Burton on Boxing Day. 2012 begins at Shrewsbury (Saturday, Jan 2nd) and at Morecambe (Saturday, Jan 7th).

The conclusion of the season gives us a home game against Bayo’s old boys at Gillingham (Saturday, Apr 28th) and a tough looking final day of the campaign away at Rotherham United (Saturday, May 5th).

Without meaning any disrespect whatsoever to any of our rivals, we should really be looking at a good start this season. On paper at least it couldn’t have gone too much better for the opening month and it’s got the juices well and truly flowing and the countdown can now begin…start making your plans folks!
