Tozer finally becomes a Cobbler

Ben Tozer finally put an end to weeks of talking today by signing on the dotted line and becoming a permanent member of the Cobblers set up. Tozer, who spent the majority of last season on loan with Town, appears to have been brought in to fill the defensive midfield role that he ended last season playing in.

There’s been plenty of talk as to whether the big man from Newcastle should be employed in defence or midfield but with Gary Johnson putting together a smaller squad full of players that can play in a number of positions it will more than likely end up being both in the coming season. John Johnson and Byron Webster look to be the first choice central defensive pairing so Tozer is likely to at least start the season in midfield.

It’s a strange turn around for a player that was about to be discarded by Johnson at the end of the season, not even making the starting eleven on occasions when we were struggling for numbers at the back. After making his debut in the Carling Cup victory at Anfield, he was a key member of the back four under Sammo before reinventing his game under the new boss.

The 21-year-old has signed a two year deal and joins Adebayo Akinfenwa, Nana, Byron Webster and Jake Robinson in joining the club this summer. Big welcome to Mr Tozer!
