Two deals round off an eventful summer at Sixfields with one expected after last Saturday and one out of the blue from Thursday that gives us a good back up for Bayo going into the opening game of the season on Saturday.
Ashley Westwood sealed a non-contract deal after coming in and impressing Gary Johnson in training and comes in as back up to the only fit central defenders in John Johnson and Byron Webster ahead of the Accrington visit. Westwood suffered a torrid time with injury and form last time out here and my initial reaction was of last resort territory but we must trust the judgement of the boss as the defender arrives for an initial month.
The more surprising deal of the day saw Bas Savage sign on a similar contract as back up to Bayo. A similar type of player to the big man, Savage once showed off his moonwalking skills in front of the south stand after scoring for Brighton and was linked to us in the past. He spent most of last season at then League One side Dagenham and Redbridge, scoring twice in ten outings for the Daggers.
Both signings have the feel of back up about them but both will be favourites to warm the bench on Saturday with options running a little low at either end of the pitch thanks to Shaun Harrad and Andy Holt both suffering injury blows that will at least keep them out of the opening month of the season.
Finishing touches complete then, let’s get going!
