There’s always a heightened feeling of excitement after a cup draw that pits your team against one of your friends’. That’s exactly what happened last night as the Cobblers were plucked out of the Carling Cup hat to face Wolverhampton Wanderers, a side that I’ve grown a little bit attached to thanks to one of my best friends being a fan of the Midlands club. Football League Predictions game competitor Phil has given me a reason to follow the goings on up there in that Premier League and has also latched on to the Cobblers’ progress, or lack of, in recent years.
So when the Cobblers were picked out of the hat to host big Mick’s men there was a positive reaction from at least one watching Wolves fan with a few others perhaps slightly worried about the trip to Sixfields after the number of upsets we’ve pulled out of the bag in the last year. The latest of those, at Ipswich on Tuesday night was the seventh tie in a row in all cup competitions for the Cobblers so it’s a huge relief to be drawn at home for a change.
The game will take place during the week commencing August 22nd so not too long to wait to see if more Carling Cup memories can be forged.
More of the same on Saturday please, when the JPT First Round draw is made!
