It’s been a long time coming but Tadhg Purcell’s expected loan move to former club Darlington has gone through with Gary Johnson stating that the striker is now ready for some first team action. It’ s still a little baffling as to why Purcell wasn’t given even a small chance to get that at Sixfields with a clutch of games at the start of this season in two cup competitions handing the squad every chance to impress but it was decided early on that he would be farmed out.
From that moment Darlington always looked the likely destination as Purcell looks to rediscover the form that alerted Ian Sampson to bring him to Sixfields last summer. He made just four appearances before his major injury that kept him out for the remainder of last season but Johnson still appears keen on bringing him back into the fold.
With the arrival of Marlon Jackson this week on loan from Bristol City it’s a sensible move for Purcell to make now and if he can regain his match fitness in the Conference then I still think he can bring a lot to this Cobblers side on his return.
