Kenilworth Road trip in the cup!

The Cobblers have been drawn away to Luton in the FA Cup First Round

The draw for the FA Cup First Round brought us an interesting tussle yesterday with the Cobblers paired with Luton Town. Since they dropped out of the league in 2009 it’s been a struggle to get back but they remain one of the stronger teams in the Blue Square Premier League. They sit fourth in the league and the fact that it’s a local derby gives the tie extra spice as the Cobblers prepare to make the trip to Kenilworth Road in a couple of weeks.

I’m guessing that you do still have to pass over a garden fence to get into the ground with the tight atmosphere of the stadium making for a cracking atmosphere so it’s a decent draw in terms of the tastiness of the game and on current form they might actually see themselves as favourites!

There’s also plenty of links to the Cobblers with Fred Murray, Dean Beckwith and Danny Crow in the Hatters squad and former Posh target of abuse Mark Tyler in goal so it looks like being a cracking day if we’re on the right side of the result. It’s a tough one to get through but if we can get back some more confidence with something at Gillingham then there’s every chance we can avoid that old banana skin and come back over the fence with a place in Round Two.

  1. Corby Fan here. This should be a really good cup tie and if we don’t manage to kill off kidderminster in our replay i might take this one in. Luton play some nice football and, with their fans behind them, i quite fancy a cup shock (would it count as a cup shock?). Good luck though.

    • Hi Simon,

With the wealth of talent at Luton’s disposal it wouldn’t be a huge upset considering our recent form and their league form…should be a decent derby though!

All the best in your replay, that was a superb result at Aggborough for you and you have to have a chance of going through at home!

  2. Well what a game that was, Kidderminster dispatched 4-1!

What’s your opinion on Bristol Rovers? Should I hold out any hope of a cup upset?
