Tuesday Headlines…

The finishing touches are being put into place before this evening’s transfer deadline with Clarke Carlisle signing this afternoon on loan from Burnley until the end of the season. It’s a good coup for Carlisle’s former boss Aidy Boothroyd with the defender most recently spending a long spell on loan at League One Preston North End. This one has real potential – a genuinely experienced head at the back, leadership skills and a calm head – he should be a perfect fit, particularly given our recent nervousness towards the end of games. Carlisle is also the Chairman of the PFA and has appeared on Countdown and Question Time if that makes a difference. Big welcome to club to Mr Carlisle, who you can find on Twitter by following @clarkecarlisle5 if you’re into that sort of thing!

Also just announced is the termination of Paul Walker’s and Ashley Corker’s contracts at the club as Aidy makes more room with the hours ticking past.

The Cobblers have decided against extending the loan of Akwasi Asante as the Birmingham man heads back to St Andrews at the end of a month’s loan.

Meanwhile, left back Blair Adams has extended his loan by a further month after making five appearances for the Cobblers.

In other news, Town’s game at Crawley is in need of re-arrangement after the Red Devils upset Championship side Hull City in the FA Cup which means that they will be in cup action once again over the weekend of the scheduled game with the Cobblers.

Torquay United defender Chris Robertson has joined League One Preston North End having just clocked up 199 appearances for the Gulls but the club have cashed in with his contract set to expire in the summer.

Meanwhile, Devon rivals Plymouth Argyle have completed the double signing of Juvhel Tsoumou and Alex McDonald on loan deals.

Pat Baldwin has finalised the deal that has taken him across Essex from League One Colchester United to Southend United with the defender signing on a free transfer.

New Bristol Rovers manager Mark McGhee has strengthened his new squad by bringing in Stoke City midfielder Matthew Lund on a one month loan deal. Jim Paterson has also signed for the Gas on a short term deal while Ben Swallow has had his contract terminated by mutual consent.

Wigan Athletic left-back Jordan Mustoe has joined Barnet on loan.

Crawley Town striker Matt Tubbs, scorer of the winning goal at Hull City in the cup on Saturday, has signed for League One side AFC Bournemouth for an undisclosed fee that is said to be around £800,000. The former Salisbury City man has scored 58 times in 78 appearances for the Red Devils. Coming in the other way though is former Cobblers loanee Billy Clarke who has joined Crawley on a two and a half year deal from Blackpool for an undisclosed fee.

Lee Cox has completed his move from Inverness Caledonian Thistle to Swindon Town on a two and a half year contract for an undisclosed fee. Cox’s deal with Cally was up in the summer.

Oxford United have been back in the market and they’ve swooped for Wycombe striker Scott Rendall and Doncaster’s Mark Wilson, Rendall on loan and Wilson on a free transfer, both until the season’s end.
